In his realistic genre paintings he used mythological themes, making modern interpretations of classical subjects, with an emphasis on the female human body. He enjoyed significant popularity in France and the United States, was given numerous official honors, and received top prices for Bouguereau art. The Heart's Awakening was sold for $1,500,000 in 1998, Alma Parens for $2,600,000 in 1999, Charity at auction in 2000 was for $3,500,000. Bouguereau paintings are in many public collections.
