Charles Marion Russell, 1864-1926, was an cowboy artist of the Old American West. Russell created more than 2,000 paintings of cowboys, Indians, and landscapes. The C. M. Russell Museum Complex houses more than 2,000 Russell artworks. His Piegans sold in 2005 for $5.6 million. At auction in 2008, Russell oil painting The Hold Up (20 Miles to Deadwood) sold for $5.2 million. In 2011, the price of Russell art canvas Water for Camp and his 1924 watercolor A Dangerous Sport sold for nearly $1.5 million each.
