Alfred Thompson Bricher, 1837 bis 1908, war ein amerikanischer Maler, der einen engen Kontakt mit der Weißen Berg Kunst (White Mountain) und Hudson River School (Hudson River School) führte. Bricher ist berühmt für eines der letzten Hudson Genremaler. Alfred Thompson Bricher wurde in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, geboren und wuchs in Newburyport, Massachusetts, auf. Als junger Mann arbeitete er als Büroangestellter in Boston, während er Malerei studierte, in der Alfred Thompson Bricher weitgehend Autodidakt war (obwohl es einige Beweise gibt, dass er formell am Bostoner Lowell-Institut studierte). Im Jahr 1858 traf er während eines Skizziertrips auf Mount Desert Island in Maine die Künstler William Stanley Haseltine und Charles Temple Dix, die einen wichtigen Einfluss auf seinen Entwicklungsstil hatten; Haseltines Gemälde der dramatischen Küstenfelsen von Neuengland inspirierten ihn dazu, Meeres- und Küstenmotive zu malen. Bricher wurde oft mit der Künstlergruppe "Hudson River School" assoziiert. Er vertrat eine konservative und realistische Herangehensweise an Landschaften, während seine Interessen nicht nur im Spiel von Licht, Wasser und Luft lagen, sondern in einem Sinn von Leuchtkraft und Spiritualität in der Natur. 1868 zog Alfred Thompson Bricher nach New York City, wo er in einem Studio im YMCA Building arbeitete; 1882 baute er ein Haus in Southampton, Long Island, wo Thompson Bricher das Meer genauer beobachten konnte. Im späteren Teil seiner Karriere wurde er Zeuge der Moderne, einer Bewegung, die viele seiner künstlerischen Anliegen obsolet erscheinen ließ - aber in einem anderen Sinn der Disziplin und dem Realismus in den Gemälden von Alfred Thompson Bricher und Robert Schumacher verpflichtet war andere Hudson River Maler. Von 1890 bis zu seinem Tod 1908 lebte er in New Dorp, Staten Island. Alfred Thompson Bricher gilt noch immer als einer der besten maritimen Maler des späten neunzehnten Jahrhunderts.
